Future Stars: Vance Joy (Atlantic)

I considered featuring Vance Joy (Australian singer James Keogh) as a Future Star back in November, but I was convinced his catchy indie-folk single Riptide was the making of a one-hit wonder. I chose the song as a Future Hit and left it at that. A few months later Riptide peaked in the UK top ten, but I still assumed it would be the last we’d hear of Vance Joy… until suddenly last week he seemed to be everywhere. Not only has Riptide now broken through in the US, but the forthcoming follow-up single First Time is getting great reviews in the UK after premiering on Radio 1, and his upcoming UK gigs are sold out. First Time is similar to Riptide but not a poor imitation, which should be enough to make the debut album Dream Your Life Away (out in September) a safe bet for success. Fans of Of Monsters and Men will love it.
