I’ll be back with my predictions for 2010 at the start of January but for now here are a few acts who probably won’t make it onto any of the ‘sound of 2010’ lists, but I think they will be worth keeping an eye on anyway.
This Norwegian girl band’s influences range from Lykke Li and Soko to the Spice Girls and Eurovision, and they are a good mid-point between all of those things. Their songs definitely need a bit more work, but Get a Grip is great fun and Just for the Night is a lovely acoustic pop song. They actually remind me most of Sita and Lilyjets, the latter being unsurprising of course as both are 3-piece Norwegian girl bands.

This handsome Londoner caught my attention with his great voice, and the fact that he’s signed to a major label but I’ve never heard of him before. His music is quite an odd mix, at times seeming rather cool and indie and at others more like James Morrison. These songs are not terrible, but neither are they hits in waiting. Clearly he’ll need something more exciting to launch his career, but there’s certainly strong potential here and I’ll be looking out for him over the next few months.

I don’t know if Jared Lee will make it as a pop star, but I think there’s a very high chance that some of these songs will find their way onto major pop albums in the future. They’re well written poppy ballads and would be great for American Idol alumni like David Archuleta and Kris Allen. Jared already has a publishing deal but no record deal as yet. I’d like to see him get a chance as an artist, as he has a very nice voice, but if not I look forward to seeing these songs reappearing and earning him some money.
