Future Stars: Lea Michele (Columbia)

I was surprised to realise I hadn’t featured Lea Michele here while her album was in the works, but perhaps it was because Glee stars have a low hit rate when they attempt to become artists in their own right. Luckily, Lea has found a gap in the market as a new, young balladeer in the vein of Celine Dion, and her music and visual positioning fulfils the brief so far. Her debut album Louder, set to make the U.S. top 10 this week, hasn’t provided an epic hit of My Heart Will Go On proportions, but with so few viable competitors in this market (Leona Lewis has left the door wide open for Lea), it’s very plausible that she will release one in the future. For now, Cannonball is a strong start and the heartbreaking If You Say So, about Cory Monteith’s death, will certainly touch a lot of people.
