I’m not sure it’s fitting to feature Royal Blood under the title Future Pop, but they can certainly be labelled “Future Popular,” so for that reason I reluctantly include them this week. Radio 1 might finally get the new rock success story they’ve been praying for with this band from Brighton. They have only been together since last year, but have already been described as “the hottest rock band in the world” (and unfortunately the writer wasn’t referring to their looks). With only two members and a shouty sound, they have been compared to The White Stripes, while there are also vocal similarities to Muse. On the upside, singer Mike says he is a fan of Katy Perry, so perhaps there is potential for him to slip a catchy melody into one of his songs in the future. Fingers crossed!
