I considered featuring Kiesza (pronounced “Kaiser”) a few months ago when she was bigged up by “tastemakers” from Radio 1, Black Butter and Sony/ATV. However, Google brought up such atrocities as this performance. She appeared to be a cringey Canadian 2010s version of Lolly. Her lauded new single Hideaway was finally premiered on Radio 1 this week, and it proves her description of herself as La Roux meets Robin S. accurate. It’s enjoyable enough, but I can’t take her seriously as a potential pop star after seeing the video linked above, and several others which have now been removed. Nonetheless, I’ll be intrigued to hear the results of her writing session with Loreen.
