When researching artists tipped for big things at this year's CMJ festival, there was one singer who stood out above all the lo-fi punk and electro hip-hop nonsense: Catey Shaw. The young New Yorker grabbed my attention with her colourful hair and her catchy single Run, Run, Run. Her music is acoustic-pop with jokey lyrics, she has a quirky voice that could easily become irritating, and she plays ukelele. It sounds like the description of every "YouTube star" in history, but actually Catey does have pop star potential. She's fun to watch and her performance brings out the cheeky personality in her lyrics.
