dotjr
Dotjr is the pseudonym of James Reeves, who I came across on MySpace about a year ago. I was impressed but forgot about him until I recently read the exciting news that he has been signed up by Polydor. He’s a great songwriter with an interesting voice, and his music is along the lines of some of my favourite Swedish artists such as Christian Walz and Vincent. It’s soulful electro-pop with complex structures and emotional vocals, which I think will appeal to a lot of This Must Be Pop readers. My only worry is that he seems to be going a bit dubstep on one of his new tracks, Blood, and I think he could be so much more than part of that soon to be over trend. I hope he doesn’t get swept up in it.

Seye Adelekan
His edgy MySpace profile picture lead me to expect dramatic, inventive urban music from Seye Adelekan, but actually his sound is relaxed and acoustic and he has covers on YouTube of artists such as Michael Bublé and Paloma Faith. He’s similar to Tinashé, who I really like, but just like Tinashé I can’t hear any amazing future hits among his repertoire. Tinashé never really made a mark and I wonder if Seye will do any better, despite the buzz that’s building around him at the moment. He’s a cool and charismatic guy, but he’ll need much better songs than the ones on his MySpace to stand a chance of the general public ever getting a chance to realise that.
