Future Stars: Port Isla (Unsigned)

It’s always a good sign that I’ve encountered a future hit when I find myself enjoying a song from a genre I don’t usually care for, so I reckon, on that basis, Port Isla’s song Steamroller could be very big. It’s still going to take a while for this Norwich group, who are unsigned but starting to get Radio 1 play and festival bookings, to reach the broad audience they have the potential to appeal to. I doubt we’ll see them making much impact until next year, but I think in time they’ll pick up a wide range of fans of all ages for their Mumfords-esque, catchy and anthemic indie-folk sound. Steamroller is the lead track from their latest EP, and 2012’s free download single Sinking Ship is also worth a listen.
