Chipmunk ft. Esmée Denters – Until You Were Gone (Listen)
It’s a bit of a step down from Justin Timberlake, but working with Chipmunk is a great idea if Esmée wants to properly make her name in the UK. Chipmunk’s songs have gradually got poppier and this is certainly the poppiest thing he’s done so far. It’s not a very original sound but it’s sweet and radio-friendly with some great “ooh-ohoh-oh”s. It’s similar to Tinchy and Amelle’s Never Leave You, but the melody isn’t quite as strong. Despite this I think it could very well be another no.1 for Chipmunk, and if so that will bode very well for Esmée. It’s just a shame that her debut album only has two good songs on it – she’d better get on with a much improved follow-up!

Tinashé – Mayday (Watch)
One of my favourite recent discoveries, Tinashé may sound a bit like Tracy Chapman but he’s still super-cool and great fun. I saw him supporting Erik Hassle and Ellie Goulding a few weeks ago and he was a million times better than Ellie, and even almost as good as Erik! He emanates aceness and although his songs are enjoyable enough on their own, they really come alive in a live performance. Mayday isn’t my favourite (I much prefer Mr Presumption) but it will hopefully attract a little more interest so he’ll be well known enough to have a big hit once he releases his better songs.

Uffie – MCs Can Kiss (Listen)
I love girl-rap so I’ve always wanted to be a fan of Uffie but I could never really get into her music… until now. MCs Can Kiss is brilliant! It’s a mixture of a one girl Northern State and an English language Yelle. The lyrics are fun and witty and the backing music makes it catchy and danceable, although the chorus is a bit repetitive. The weird ending makes it clear that although Uffie has gone a little more mainstream, she’s not planning to lose her individuality any time soon. She’s about to release her first album (despite having been around for 5 years already) so hopefully 2010 will be the year Uffie makes it big.

I know, it’s terrible! I haven’t had proper internet (just a dongle, which was rubbish) for the last 2 months so it’s been hard to keep on top of things but now all should be back to normal. I’ve got some exciting (for me at least!) interviews lined up as well. I’m glad you like Tinashé and Uffie!
