Usually Swedish artists achieve success at home before they break the US, but Mapei has skipped ahead and signed to Downtown, the Sony subsidiary which is also home to Major Lazer and Santigold. The fact that she was born in Rhode Island undoubtedly helped her get that fast-pass, but now she needs to prove she deserves it. With her big afro hair she looks more American than Swedish, but you can see the Scandinavian songwriting skills in her song Don't Wait. The production will appeal to fans of Lykke Li, but she also brings soulful vocals and gospel influences. And don't turn off before the Neneh Cherry-esque rap.
