2014 may be the year of the Irish singer-songwriter. In one song, Dublin-based Andrew Hozier-Byrne (known as Hozier) has eclipsed the potential of Daniel James, who I featured a few weeks ago. Take Me To Church is a deep, powerful track with an anti-homohobia message, ripe to be rapped over by someone like Kanye or Jay-Z. It went viral thanks to a tweet from Stephen Fry and his upcoming Dublin gigs (taking place fittingly in a church) sold out in hours. I see Hozier as a cool, modern Elton John, or a more raw and believable Tom Odell. Take Me To Church is currently in the Irish iTunes top 10, which is particularly impressive as it's also available as a free download.
