It was very difficult to choose my Song of the Week as I’ve spent the week listening to the new BØRNS album, Dopamine, and I think it’s brilliant from start to finish. Sometimes when an artist has a distinctive style, the album tracks can be simply tone-setting filler, but that’s not the case here. Some of the standout tracks (excluding the ones we already knew) include Holy Ghost, Past Lives and Dug My Heart, but I’ve decided (for now, at least!) my favourite is American Money. It has a darker feel than usual for BØRNS, reminding me of Lorde or The Neighbourhood, but it’s lifted by a strong, poppy chorus. Although his retro references are evident throughout Dopamine, BØRNS brings his sound completely up to date with songs like American Money.
