Future Stars: Allen Stone (Decca)

Allen Stone‘s USP is that he looks like a hippy but he sings like a black man (Stevie Wonder in particular). He grew up singing in church, then got into soul music as a teenager, eventually giving up his religious beliefs. His music is packed with social and political commentary on subjects such as the economic crisis. So far this approach seems to be succeeding, as his track Unaware has had nearly two million views on YouTube, his album went to no.2 on the US iTunes R&B chart, and he was invited to perform on major chat shows Ellen and Conan. He's also building up a following in the UK and recently toured here.
