It's only early December, but already three of the major "ones to watch" lists for 2013 have been announced. Good news for Tom Odell: He's nominated for the Brits Critics Choice Award, BBC Sound of 2013 and MTV's Brand New For 2013. Unfortunately, the only good things I could think to say about him is that he looks a bit Swedish and he at least plays piano, instead of the exhausted acoustic guitar. I don't mind melodramatic music, but Tom's is just too self-pitying for me. Still, Adele has shown how well simple, depressing ballads can sell, so I wouldn't bet against Tom fulfilling MTV, the BBC and the Brits' expectations if he has a hit up his sleeve.
