The Next Big Thing?

Nikki & Rich
This Amy Winehouse-wannabe sound is getting really boring now, but after watching the trailer for Nikki & Rich’s new video I find myself wanting them to do well, because they seem like such a fun pair. They recently signed a major label deal in the US and the single, Cat and Mouse, has already been heard on the soundtrack to TV shows like 90210 and Entourage. None of the songs sound like massive hits to me, but the quality is consistent and therefore they could be successful on the basis that their songs would fit in well on the radio, and their album will certainly be pleasant listening, even if not warranting much excitement.

Rachel Furner
Rachel recently supported Pixie Lott at her album launch gig, and it’ll be interesting to see if her career progresses in the same way as Pixie’s has over the last year. Whereas Pixie had already recorded (and posted on MySpace) most of her best songs a year ago, Rachel’s output so far is only reasonably good, not chart-toppingly good, so she’ll need the help of as many super-songwriters as Pixie got to work with if she wants to imitate Pixie’s success. However, her rendition of La Roux’s In For The Kill shows she has the vocal talents to make it – I actually prefer it to Erik Hassle’s version!
