Review: This Must Be Pop Live featuring Ivy & Gold, Jasmine Thompson and Georgia Mason

Last night was the last This Must Be Pop Live of 2014, but our first ever Christmas special! It was lovely to see lots of TMBP regulars and new faces in the audience, and I think everyone went away with three new favourite artists, as the performers were some of the best we’ve had yet.

Georgia Mason

Georgia only released her debut EP a few months ago, but she’s already an accomplished performer. She won over the crowd with her charming personality as well as her compelling vocals and performance. She was joined on stage by two backing singers, and together they harmonised beautifully, bringing Georgia’s well-written retro-inspired pop songs to life.

Jasmine Thompson

At just 14, Jasmine is the youngest artist to perform at This Must Be Pop Live so far, but her vocals were as strong and impressive as any other singer who has taken the stage. She played a simple set, just her and an acoustic guitarist, and sang one original song (the lovely Run) along with four of her popular covers from YouTube, including Home and Riptide.

Ivy & Gold

The finale of the night was electro-pop duo Ivy & Gold. It was exciting to see their powerful, dramatic songs performed live in an intimate setting. It was a night of strong, distinctive female voices, and Ivy & Gold’s lead singer Rachel plays a big part in creating the unique sound of Ivy & Gold with her almost classical-sounding vocals. If you couldn’t make it to TMBP Live, check out their headline show next week at the Roundhouse.

Thank you to Jon for the photos – check out the rest on Facebook here.

Thanks to Luke for hosting the show, DJ October Boy for spinning lots of fun festive pop, and Bel for helping out on the night.

See you in the new year for the next This Must Be Pop Live!
