New Pop on the Block

Kristinia DeBarge – Future Love (Listen)
America’s latest pop princess has unveiled her second single, and it’s not bad at all. I think I still prefer Goodbye but Future Love has a nice, cheerful vibe about it, reminiscent of One Step at a Time by Jordin Sparks. This is the second song I’ve compared to One Step this week, it must have been more memorable than I thought! Future Love also reminds me of a really famous 90s r&b song in the intro, can anyone help me work out which it is? Goodbye is scheduled for UK release in a couple of months and I think it’s going to be a hit. I just hope there’s more than 2 good songs on the album, cos the others on her MySpace are a bit lacklustre.

BWO ft. Velvet – Right Here Right Now (Listen)
This collaboration is bothering me a bit. I should be excited that one of my favourite bands has teamed up with another ace Swedish popstar, but the fact that it is basically just the original version, danced up a bit with Velvet’s vocals added, kind of ruins it. They didn’t even go into the studio together, as far as I can tell. Martin and Jenny may never have even met! It also doesn’t make sense for a UK release. Surely if BWO wanted a UK hit they’d be better to get someone who is known in the UK to guest-star on the song? Having September on the song would be a great benefit to BWO, but why Velvet? I did think Velvet could have had a UK hit, and possibly still might, but BWO are just not suited to the UK market and as much as I love them, they need to stop trying because they must be losing money by doing so.
