She looks like Iggy Azalea, sounds like Amy Winehouse, and she’s from Colombia, the home of Shakira. It sounds like a recipe for a future pop superstar, and Kali Uchis is certainly one to watch. I caught her twice at The Great Escape – first playing an afternoon acoustic set for VEVO, then a full live set in the evening. Unusually for me, I preferred the acoustic set, as her vocals are her strength, and the longer later set revealed that her non-singles are not as good as Know What I Want or Rush. She needs more development, but definitely has pop star potential, and that’s not easy to find. She has lots of interest from major and indie labels so a deal is likely to be announced soon.
