Hozier’s self-titled album debuted in the UK top 5 yesterday, finally achieving the chart success he deserves. Overall, apart from the brilliant single Take Me To Church, it’s a bit too long and the latter half is quite dreary, but there are two really nice, uplifting songs that I’ve been listening to a lot. There’s Something New, which I featured here in acoustic form when I first wrote about Hozier last year, and Jackie and Wilson, which is equally fun and lovely. Jackie and Wilson is about a fantasy relationship, and I love the chorus lyrics, “We'll name our children Jackie and Wilson, 'raise em on rhythm and blues.” Sounds like a plan.
