Future Pop stars at The Great Escape

I’m headed to the Great Escape festival in Brighton next month and the full line-up has just been confirmed. I was excited to see so many Future Pop artists included, so here’s my countdown of the top 10 Future Pop featured acts to see at The Great Escape. Click their names to read more about each act, and here to sign up to the weekly Future Pop mailer.

1. Bastille

At The Great Escape last year I saw Bastille in a tiny venue with a crowd who had little clue who they were. This year they’re one of the headline acts, with a show at the biggest festival venue, the Brighton Dome.

2. A*M*E

A*M*E recently became the first This Must Be Pop Live act to hit number one in the UK charts, so it will be great to see her following this success, as one of the most anticipated performers at The Great Escape.

3. Chloe Howl

One of the most exciting new pop acts of 2013 is Chloe Howl, but she’s yet to do any live shows, so I can’t wait to finally see her perform tracks such as Rumour and No Strings.

4. Chvrches

Glasgow band Chvrches have proven that there’s more to Scotland than tartan and The Proclaimers with their distinctive electro-pop sound, which earned them a place in the BBC’s Sound of 2013 list.

5. Ella Eyre

I wrote about Ella last year when she was called Ella and the Lion, and now she’s stepped into the limelight as the featured singer on Rudimental’s new single Waiting All Night, which is headed for number one on Sunday.

6. Iggy Azalea

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has been all over Radio 1 recently with her single Work, and could well take over Azealia Banks’ role as the leader of the indie female rapper scene if her success continues.

7. Mali

He appeared as an adorable kid with an afro on X Factor 2008 and featured on Chase and Status’ 2010 hit Let You Go, and finally he’ll be performing his new solo music at The Great Escape.

Rainy Milo

8. Rainy Milo

Recently signed to Mercury, Rainy is possibly the coolest female singer to ever come out of the Brit School, but after 18 months of underground buzz it now must surely be time for her big pop moment.

9. Ruen Brothers

Ruen Brothers’ ’60s-style rock-pop music has led them to be called the hottest unsigned act in the UK, so their gig at The Great Escape this year, their first UK festival, is sure to be packed.

10. Deap Vally

Also for the rock chicks (and whatever the male equivalent is… rock chaps?) are Deap Vally, the American girl duo with heaps of attitude, a cool vintage look and fierce 70s-inspired tunes.
