One of the artists who Shazam is predicting we’ll be seeing a lot of in 2015 is a new Columbia signing, a 23-year-old female rapper from Detroit called Dej Loaf. Her low budget video for Try Me/We Good has over 10 million hits. She’s not a glam pop diva like Iggy and Nicki, and I’m not an expert, but it seems like she’s part of the real hip-hop scene and I think that’s why she has resonated with the US audience. The big female rappers right now are making music for people (like me) who don’t know their Meek Mill from their Gucci Mane, but this is for those who do. Drake is a big supporter, and she features on fellow Detroit rapper Eminem’s new Shady XV album. I’m not sure the doors will be open for Dej Loaf to achieve mainstream chart success, but in hip-hop she’s on track to become a very big name.
