Song of the Week: Ward Thomas – Push For The Stride

While researching The Shires, I discovered that they’re not the only surprisingly good new British country duo. Here’s another one! Ward Thomas are 20-year-old twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy Ward-Thomas, who grew up on a farm in Hampshire, and started making country music after finding a love for the Dixie Chicks and Carrie Underwood. Their debut album From Where We Stand is released today, and includes current single Push For The Stride, as well as the equally catchy previous release The Good and the Right. They’re unsigned and releasing the album themselves, but they’re doing pretty well nonetheless. They’ve had support from Radio 1 and local BBC stations, and performed on the ITV show Weekend on Saturday. I wouldn’t be surprised if a major label soon comes knocking.
