Future Stars: Tor Miller (Glassnote)

I haven’t often listened to Zane Lowe’s evening show on Radio 1 (which ends its 13-year run this month), as most of the music isn’t to my taste, but considering I’ve discovered some brilliant artists on the occasions I have tuned in, maybe I should have given it more attention. It was the first place I heard Years & Years in January 2014, and in January 2015 I was introduced to piano-playing singer-songwriter Tor Miller. I’d already made plans to attend his London gig (which finally comes around this week) by the time the song, Midnight, had finished. The 19-year-old New Yorker will have to compete with similar new artists BØRNS and Tobias Jesso Jr., and since I’ve spoken highly of them both in Future Pop recently, I think it says a lot that I still think Tor Miller has a good shot. Midnight features on his very promising debut EP, named after previous single Headlights.
