Last night This Must Be Pop Live made its big comeback at Queen of Hoxton after a few months off for summer. We had one of our biggest crowds yet and everyone I spoke to said that they had a brilliant time. Here’s what went on…
First to perform was singer/rapper Mercedes, who was looking extremely cool with her sparkly bumbag and amazing hair. She performed five songs including her debut single Shock Absorber and Airwave Hustler, from which she takes her nickname. Her cheeky upbeat pop-rap music got everyone in the mood for a good time and set the tone for the night ahead.
Next up were the equally stylish Velvet Stream, who were definitely the rockiest act we’ve had so far at TMBP Live but kept it pop with catchy tunes such as their single Selfish Mind. They definitely achieved their ambition of bringing a festival atmosphere to the Queen of Hoxton and with some big gigs coming up in the next few months they’re certainly ones to watch.
The big finale of the night came from girlband Parade, who were debuting some new tracks exclusively at This Must Be Pop Live, and performed their fab new free download Light Me Up for the first time ever! It was great to get a glimpse of what’s to come from Parade’s second album, and their performance got a huge reaction from the crowd, singing and dancing along to songs new and old.
After the performances were over, our brilliant DJ Jon took over the decks with a mix of girlband classics and current hits, which kept the crowd dancing ’til we had to close at midnight. Overall the night was a great success, and I think all the artists won over lots of new fans!
Thanks to Jon Barker for the photos, Luke and Dave for brilliant compering and Emmie for all her help.
