The Next Big Thing?

Neon Hitch
Much like Lolene, who I wrote about a couple of weeks ago, Neon Hitch is a British girl who is making waves in the US music industry thanks to her collaborations with some major international writing/producing talents. Her similar artists on Last.FM include the unexpected mixture of Doe Deere and Wynter Gordon, two excellent female acts, so you know her music is going to be worth a listen. It’s R&B-pop but more in the style of Robyn than Beyoncé. Neon Hitch is no pop robot, she has personality and already looks like a star. I think it won’t be long until she really is one with songs like these and a voice like hers.

Tina Parol
She’s already had a single on the Billboard charts in America, but it somehow passed me by completely cos I only heard of Tina Parol a few weeks ago. Who’s Got Your Money is a really cute and catchy pop song but not spectacularly original. Still, it will please pop fans and so will her other songs, which sound like the mid-point between Pink and Natasha Bedingfield. Hold On To Your Heart is full of fun and super-uplifting, and certainly my favourite of the songs on Tina’s MySpace, although I do like all of them and will definitely be interested in hearing her album. There’s nothing special or unusual about Tina’s music except for the consistency of its poptasticness, which is always a rare treat.

Gaby
There’s a new Swedish pop lady on the scene and she’s clearly looking to join Velvet and September in the battle to be the queen of Swedish dance-pop. Unfortunately she’s got a long way to go before she’s ready to compete with those two. The single, My Show, has a catchy chorus but is generally unmemorable. However, her other MySpace song, Break It Up, has a really lovely chorus which reminds me of Robyn’s more tender moments. It shows much more potential and if she releases it next, she could have a hit on her hands because I could certainly see stations like Rix FM playing it, and it should go down pretty well with my fellow Scandiphiles as well.
