The 20th Most Poptastic Single of 2009
Darin – Viva La Vida
Released: October
Trivia: Darin’s debut UK single, Breathing Your Love, will now be released on the 24th of January, but perhaps Viva La Vida would be a good choice for single no.2 – it was no.1 for weeks in Sweden, after all!
Best bits: 1. Oh-ooh-oh-ooh-oh-oh oh-ooh-oh-ooh-oh-oh etc
2. I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing, Roman Catholic choirs are singing
3. I used to rule the world, seas would rise when I gave the word

Alcazar – Stay The Night

Trivia: Alcazar will again enter Melodifestivalen in 2010, with a song called Headlines, which was originally written for the almighty Linda Bengtzing.

Alcazar – Burning
Released: 16th April
Trivia: Alcazar recently released a cover of Last Christmas by Wham, but they’re not the only ones – Florence and the Machine, Metro Station and many more have covered the song this year, with my personal favourite version being the one recorded by the cast of Glee.
Best bits: 1. Cos baby you’ve got me burning, burning! (aha aha)
2. You just see how I feel, reach the point where I’m burning up inside, you put my heart on fire

Måns Zelmerlöw – Hold On
Released: 9th June
Trivia: Lovely Måns is supposed to be joining the cast of Chicago in 2010, so it’s rather handy that my office is down the road from the theatre. I will soon steal him away from that super-tanned Serneholt!
Best bits: 1. One by one we change how we’re living!
2. We can work it out (ahh), keep moving on (ahh), we can still be strong (ahh), just try to get along (ahh)
3. Hold on, cos it ain’t over ’til it’s over-er
Taio Cruz’s music is perfectly geared for the radio. I have to wonder if his folks are working on crossing him over to the US in the coming year.

John – I wouldn’t be surprised as he’s worked with lots of US acts already. I suppose the next step is for him to make some songs in his own style for US acts. His early work for other artists doesn’t seem very ‘Taio’ but his songs for JLS and Cheryl were very distinctive. If he can get a few songs in his distinct style onto major US artists’ albums, he’ll be a shoe-in for success.
Richard – It was a very hard decision between the two! And this may not be the last you’ll see of Måns in this list…
