Unusually for my Song of the Week, Weekend by Berlin-based trio Mocki fits in very well with the sound of the UK charts right now. However, since its music video on the popular Kitsuné YouTube channel has only been viewed 50,000 times in 3 months, sadly it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a hit any time soon. Weekend is a sweet and light electro-house tune with a strong pop infusion. It would appeal to fans of Blonde and Clean Bandit, but would also make a great single for an act like Little Mix or Cheryl Cole, if they ever get around to tapping into this house-pop trend that would suit them so well. There’s also a remix by Jai Wolf which is just as good as the original.
