Future Stars: Say Lou Lou (Columbia)

Now here’s an example of how a girlband can approach pop music from outside the mainstream while appealing to genuine pop fans at the same time. I wasn’t sold on Swedish-Australian twin sisters Say Lou Lou at first, which is why it took me over a year to feature them here. I was dubious when they were hailed as the next big thing based on just one nice-but-not-spectacular song (Maybe You), but I appreciate the fact that they used their blog buzz to get in the studio with great pop producers and writers, like Liam Howe, Karen Poole and Hannah Robinson. The results, especially b-side Beloved (which should have been a single) and the new single Everything We Touch, are very impressive. Their music is pretty and ethereal but it still has a strength that makes it pop.
