As a beautiful girl who makes indie-electro music and loves sports, Roxie LS is a dead cert to win over the male-dominated music press. But will the hype translate into more commercial success than other cool, model-esque female singers such as Sunday Girl and Sky Ferreira have achieved? The only one who’s made it work in recent years is Lana Del Rey, and that was a triumph of marketing. Roxie will need to create a distinct character for herself more interesting than “surfer girl” (the LS in her name stands for Loves Surfing) if she wants to succeed. As for her music, it’s pretty and unusual, sounding almost classical at times, like a mixture of Ellie Goulding and Enya. If all goes well she’ll find herself on Radio 1 and Radio 2, a great coup for any up-and-coming act.
