Future Stars: Miguel (RCA)

Californian singer Miguel takes R&B back to what it used to be with his soulful, romantic songs, in sharp contrast to the innuendo-filled cheap dance sound that has replaced it in recent years. While other current male R&B singers Frank Ocean and Trey Songz do little for me, Miguel's voice puts him in another league. His biggest hit Adorn could be considered a 2012 answer to Sexual Healing, and Marvin Gaye is clearly an influence. The new single Do You… is guitar-based and almost has an indie feel, but with a fantastic groove that indie can never achieve. Relaxing isn't exactly a criteria I look for in music, but next time I do want to relax I might just put on Miguel's new album!
