Lights is an artist I’ve followed from a distance throughout her career. I don’t have any of her albums, but I’ll usually give her new songs a listen, hoping that one day she’ll go from good to great. She’s always been close enough that it could happen, but not quite there. Up We Go, the lead single from new album Little Machines (released tomorrow), is my favourite song by Lights so far. It’s consistent with her distinctive electro-pop sound, but the songwriting is stronger, catchier and more anthemic.
