If, like me, you miss Taylor Swift’s country days, you need the new EP from Lauren Alaina in your life. Her sound is pure, youthful country-pop, with sweet lyrics and strong, catchy melodies. I chose Road Less Traveled as my Song of the Week because it’s an energetic, carefree, motivational belter that will make you smile and sing along from the first listen. Lauren has enjoyed minor success in the US country charts since she came second in American Idol four years ago, and remains signed to 19 Recordings, Interscope and Mercury Nashville. There’s nothing innovative about Lauren’s music, but I appreciate that she’s simply making all-American, family-friendly tunes that perfectly represent her and her young female fans. Her debut album (sadly never released in the UK) is one of my favourite country albums, and the new EP holds no surprises and no disappointment.
