I featured Nadia Rose as a Future Star earlier this year, before she signed to Relentless. Although I was instantly a fan of her lively vibe, my concern was how she’d manage to reach the mainstream, when other British female rappers such as Lady Leshurr and Little Simz are yet to crack it. This new dance track could be the answer. Crank It (Woah!) is a fast-paced, vibrant tune with a carnival feel, and Nadia’s vocals add a very British sass. I caught this on Radio 1 a few weeks ago and have been obsessed ever since. It may be a slow burner as, after a month, its play counts on YouTube and Soundcloud are good but not exactly stratospheric – in the tens of thousands, not the millions. Nonetheless, it’s one of those songs that really sounds like an inevitable hit. If it’s not, I’m booking an appointment with the ear doctor.
