Song of the Week: Grace ft. G-Eazy – You Don’t Own Me

Grace appeared out of nowhere last week with a cover of You Don’t Own Me by Lesley Gore, which made no.1 on the Spotify viral chart. Her version features Californian rapper G-Eazy and was produced by Quincy Jones, who worked on Lesley’s original version too, along with British producer and Grace’s regular collaborator Parker Ighile. The song was new to me, but having compared the two versions, I think Grace has done a good job of updating a classy retro hit for a new generation. Her style is a mix of Amy, Paloma and Christina. A little research revealed that Grace is Australian singer Grace Sewell, a new RCA US signing and the 17-year-old sister of Conrad (who I featured last week).
