Future Stars: Josef Salvat (Columbia)

Josef Salvat has been around for a similar amount of time to Zella, but I have been aware of him throughout. I even saw him live at The Great Escape festival last year, but I wasn’t convinced there was a big audience for his music, so never considered featuring him here. However, that changed when I heard the Australian (but now UK-based) singer’s new song Open Season – he has definitely “gone pop.” Any of you who like Hurts or Bright Light Bright Light should give it a listen. Josef has a talent for simple, catchy songwriting, as well as a voice which is deep and emotive yet still poppy. He is quite an awkward performer, but if he keeps releasing songs of this quality, the public might just look past that, or even grow to love him for it. If you like Open Season, check out the rest of the In Your Prime EP, out now.
