British band Flyte, who have just signed to Island Records, are proof that you can get a major record deal without an online fanbase, as their two music videos have less than 10,000 views combined and they have 380 Twitter followers. Instead the label has taken a chance on them based on indie tastemaker hype, hoping that this will translate into success with a wider audience. It's a strategy that fails more than it succeeds, but at least these guys have some songwriting skills. Their single Over and Out is mildly catchy (but not so catchy as to put off grumpy snobs) and its colourful lo-fi video is quite fun.
