Song of the Week: Christina Skaar – Critical

2015 really is Norway’s year. Aurora and Susanne Sundfør are my favourite new discoveries and among the best live acts I’ve seen (twice each), while my Song of the Week has been Norwegian for the past two weeks. Now let’s make that three, with Critical by Christina Skaar. She has previously worked as a songwriter for DJs such as Bob Sinclar and John Dahlback, and has a publishing deal with Warner Chappell, but Critical is her first single as a solo artist. It’s not at all innovative, but a strong power-pop tune just as we can expect from Scandinavia. It wouldn’t be out of place in modern-day Eurovision, or on an early Saturdays album (perhaps fellow Norwegian Ina Wroldsen had an influence). I discovered Critical while trawling European Spotify playlists last month, and it turns out it is being released in the UK in August, with a video coming soon.
