Song of the Week: Big Wild ft. Tove Styrke – Aftergold

A few weeks ago, LA producer Big Wild (real name Jackson Stell) re-released his most popular track, Aftergold, with a very welcome addition. The song now features a joyously catchy topline from one of my favourite Swedish pop stars, Tove Styrke. Big Wild is signed to Foreign Family Collective, a label set up by the members of Odesza, an electronic duo I featured here in 2014. The connection makes sense, as Aftergold does have a similar vibe to Odesza’s brilliant Say My Name. Aftergold is a summery tune, which seems quite subtle at first but soon becomes addictive. I’m not sure if this song has huge commercial potential, but I’d love to see Tove finally get a hit, even if it’s a feature, because she deserves to be so much better known. Both her albums, Kiddo and Tove Styrke are underrated triumphs.
