Future Stars: Conrad Sewell (300 Entertainment)

You might know Conrad Sewell, often credited just as Conrad, from Kygo’s single Firestone. That may be his international breakthrough, but he’s not new to the music industry. As a teenager in 2004 he competed in Australian Idol (but wasn’t a finalist, as I’ve seen reported). Moving to LA, he went on to write for artists such as Kylie and Adam Lambert, and fronted a rock band called Sons of Midnight who had a hit in Germany with The Fire (but not a no.1, another false report… doesn’t his PR know we can fact-check these things?! And let's stop pretending he's 25 when he's actually 27). Conrad is now signed to 300 Entertainment, a new label from ex-Warner CEO Lyor Cohen, and supporting Ed Sheeran on his Australian tour. He’s launching his solo career with two singles, the powerful ballad Start Again and anthemic, upbeat pop tune Hold Me Up. They're very different to Firestone, so he’ll have to build a fanbase almost from scratch. Both singles are very impressive, so I’m wishing him the best, and excited to hear more.
