I like the idea of female-fronted pop-rock acts, but their output rarely comes close to Max Martin’s take on the genre. I loved Still Into You by Paramore, but The Pretty Reckless and Tonight Alive are nowhere to be seen on my iTunes. Nonetheless, I keep listening to their new songs, hoping their moment of brilliance will come. I’ll be doing the same with PVRIS, the American group led by 20-year-old Lyndsey Gunnulfsen, who just released their debut album. The recent singles My House and St. Patrick are strong efforts with anthemic choruses, electronic production and enough melodic moments to make the shouty-ness acceptable.
