The Next Big Thing?

Fugative
16 year old Harry Byart is Fugative: a cross between a white Chipmunk and a one man Blazin’ Squad, and like both of these acts he’s gaining a huge following with British teenage girls. When you start seeing loads of girls on Twitter who have added Fugative to the end of their names, you know he’s gonna be big. More importantly, his new single is rather brilliant. It’s very cheap and dated pop-rap, but cheesy rap happens to be one of my favourite things in pop music, and with the addition of an extremely catchy chorus, Crush is instantly my new obsession. Unfortunately the other tracks on his MySpace are far less listenable, but I’m sure he will record some better songs to release next if Crush is a hit.

The Wanted
I’m a little biased when it comes to this new British boyband, as I work for their manager, but I am being entirely honest when I say that I’m excited to be involved. The band, aged between 16 and 21, have a few clips of demos up on MySpace already, so you can get a taste of what to expect. All Time Low is the likely first single, and already proving very popular, while Heart Vacancy, a slower number with a catchy chorus, would be perfect for radio. Behind Bars was impressively written by the boys themselves, but Let’s Get Ugly is a co-write by two very big names, which will soon be revealed. It’s always hard to predict how new boybands will do, as we’ve seen so many fail to succeed even with brilliant music (remember V?) but I feel optimistic about The Wanted and the reaction at their gigs so far has been extremely positive. JLS may soon have some major competition for the boyband throne!

  1. The PJ forum members these days love to be cynical – for some reason people think it’s cool, but I think it’s quite sad really. I’d rather get excited about new pop acts, and if they don’t make it I’ll just move on. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about if a band you support is a flop. They’ll only join the ranks of V, Triple 8, Avenue… not bad company! And if they do well, even better.

  3. More importantly…who is the gay one in The Wanted? lol

Seriously, the more pop acts the better, I’m sick of all this American R&B/Rap rubbish and I think we have overdosed on Glee music.

As for Fugitive, it’s not bad, it’s catchy but it’s too schoolgirly for my liking if you know what I mean.
