It only took me 30 seconds of listening to Rhodes’ new single Your Soul to know I had to feature this artist (I didn’t even know if it was a group or a soloist) in Future Pop. The world is full of singer-songwriters trying to create beautiful, introspective songs, but only a few are capable, and Rhodes (who it turns out is a solo male singer, David Rhodes from Hertfordshire) certainly has the ability. He sings with the precision of someone who knows they’ve written a great song – there is no need for wailing and whimpering when the lyrics and melody speak for themselves. Your Soul is a recent BBC Introducing Song of the Week, and features on Rhodes’ new self-released EP, Morning. With support slots lined up for Sam Smith and London Grammar, and a place on the Radio 1 Big Weekend Line-up, Rhodes won't remain unsigned for much longer. (Update: After writing this, I was informed he is signed to Ministry of Sound!)
