Future Stars: Nick Mulvey (Fiction)

Nick Mulvey is an indie-folk artist who has been around for a few years, but has finally started to get recognition over the past few months. His music’s generally a bit dreary for my tastes, so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed his last single, the catchy, quirky Cucurucu. It wasn’t just me, as the song was playlisted by Radio 1 and reached no.26 in the UK singles chart, making it Nick’s first top 40 hit. He has a serious muso background, having previously been nominated for a Mercury as part of the experimental jazz band Portico Quartet, and studied ethnomusicology at SOAS. His new single Meet Me There has also received Radio 1 support and looks likely to set him up for success with his debut solo album First Mind, released in May.
