1. Alcazar – This Is The World We Live In
I’ve always liked Alcazar but this song was the one that tipped me over the edge of fandom, making me buy their album. It samples the brilliant Upside Down by Diana Ross and has top cheery lyrics as ever.
2. Butterfly Boucher – Busy
I think I have never spent a better £2 than on Butterfly’s album. It surpassed my expectations a hundred times over and this is the poppiest and one of the best tracks.
3. Scissor Sisters – It Can’t Come Quickly Enough
I love every track on their album but this song has stood out to me for some reason. It’s very sad whilst still being the poppy excellence we are used to from them. Just a lovely song.
4. Robyn – Don’t Stop The Music
The title track from Robyn’s latest album and one of her best. It’s upbeat, poppy and the lyrics are great: “This little girl didn’t care what anybody said, she got the whole world dancing to the music in her head.”
5. Da Buzz – Dangerous
Da Buzz are another great Scandinavian pop-dance act and their songs are usually quite good but a bit samey. Although this is not a huge departure I’d say it’s their best single yet, it’s very catchy and rhymes dangerous with fabulous!
