I often find myself trying to explain to up-and-coming artists I meet that the reason I can't feature them in Future Pop is not because I don't like their music, but because I need to be convinced that they are the next big thing. However, occasionally a song comes along which convinces me that an otherwise uninteresting artist could achieve huge success. That's what happened when I listened to Leon Else's new song Protocol this week. The track, produced by the talented Cass Lowe and Electric, doesn't seem that special at first, but builds and shows its full brilliance in the latter half. There are similar artists already signed, such as Joel Compass and Raleigh Ritchie, but I prefer Protocol to anything I've heard from them so far.
