Californian duo Deap Vally follow Haim and Black Belles in the trend for very cool American girls making retro rock music. Deap Vally are the rockiest of the three, with powerful shouty vocals and heavy guitars leading them to be described as an all girl White Stripes, even though Black Belles are the ones signed to Jack White's record label. Being a pop girl I wouldn't really listen to this sort of music myself, but I absolutely love the energy and attitude in their debut single Gonna Make My Own Money and its video, which is perfectly calculated to appeal to those who wish they lived in the '70s.
