I haven’t had chance to listen to Lemonade yet (or any of Beyoncé’s previous albums for that matter… maybe one day), but as soon as I heard that it featured a country song I had to check it out. While the country-dance music trend has come and gone, 2016 seems to be the year that country intertwines with hip-hop and R&B. Kacey Musgraves duetted with Miguel, Nelly’s new single is a cover of a recent country hit, Justin Timberlake is rumoured to be working on a country album after owning last year’s CMAs, and now Beyoncé’s got involved, so it’s definitely a trend. In Daddy Lessons, her voice blends well with the jaunty guitar, and she’s gotten into the spirit of the genre with lyrics about a dastardly dude and threats of violence. The Pistol Annies would be proud.
